A Lifelong Commitment to Ministry

Dr. Sand, originally from Uruguay in South America, has spent his life following Christ’s example across different regions of the world, sharing God’s love and helping others grow in faith. From Argentina to the United States, then to Central Asia, and now in the Middle East and North Africa, his work has centered on planting churches, mentoring leaders, working with the youth, and serving diverse communities.

Ordained in 2005, his journey in ministry began much earlier, as a young canvasser in Argentina and later as a district pastor, chaplain, and teacher. In the United States, he served for several years, helping to establish churches and develop small group ministries.
In 2011, he and his family moved to Central Asia, where he served in various leadership roles. He trained young leaders, supported church growth, and helped develop outreach strategies. During that time, he also received training in cross-cultural relations and emergency response.

Deep Roots in the Region

From 2017 to 2022, he served as Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa Union (MENAU), based in Beirut. He worked with local leaders to support gospel efforts across the region. In 2023, he began serving as President of the Egypt Field (ex Egypt-Sudan Field).
Now, as President of the Middle East and North Africa Union, Pastor Sand continues to support the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the region. His leadership draws on years of hands-on experience and a consistent commitment to God’s calling.

He holds a Doctorate of Ministry in Leadership from Andrews University and is fluent in Spanish and English, with an understanding of Russian.

He serves alongside his wife, Ingrid, and their three sons, Adriel, Mattias, and Josiah, living faithfully and responsibly wherever God leads them. Dr. Sand enjoys the mountains and often hikes with a backpack on his shoulders. He appreciates Middle Eastern dishes, and he has a special love for a Lebanese side dish called muhammara.

Understanding the Role of the Oversight Committee

Because the General Conference directly oversees the Middle East and North Africa Union, leadership appointments are made by the Oversight Committee rather than a Division Executive Committee.

With all committee members present at the 62nd General Conference Session, this gathering provided a timely and practical opportunity to make the appointment. Meeting now, rather than waiting until Annual Council in October, ensured a smooth transition and continued momentum for the work in the region.

The Middle East and North Africa Union warmly welcomes Dr. Denis Sand as its new president. As he begins this new role, we move forward together, trusting God’s guidance and welcoming everyone’s continued support along the way.
