Parents and children from the Bouchrieh community in Lebanon learn more about Jesus at a well-received Vacation Bible School.
The Children’s Ministries team of the University Church, in collaboration with Adventist School Bouchrieh (ASB), hosted “Thunder Island: Jesus Is Always with Me,” an unforgettable Vacation Bible School experience, held during Easter vacation.
Over 100 children, most from the community surrounding the Bouchrieh Adventist school and church, gathered for a week of joy, learning, and spiritual growth.
Meriam Asmar and an incredible team of 63 dedicated volunteers and staff from the school, church, university, and union poured their hearts into creating a welcoming and exciting experience.
School classrooms were transformed into immersive spaces—prayer rooms, craft rooms, and even a Bible story stage set where kids walked into dramatic retellings of Scripture. One of the most moving moments was watching the children grow quiet with wide eyes the moment they stepped into a Bible story room—completely drawn in by the live-action scenes unfolding before them.
From creative snacks and interactive songs to outdoor games and hands-on teaching, the program kept energy levels high and spirits even higher. “If you could bottle the energy of those kids,” joked one volunteer, “we could solve the energy crisis for years!”
At the heart of it all was a message rooted in John 13:34,35: “Love one another as I have loved you... By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples.” This verse became the cornerstone of the VBS journey, emphasizing that Jesus is always with us—and His love is meant to be shared.
The visible growth in children’s understanding of biblical truths was matched by the trust built with families, most of whom are not members of the Adventist church.
“It’s powerful that parents felt safe leaving their children with us,” shared Boucherie SDA church Pastor Samuel Eskander. “They requested more of this kind of programming and asked if we could offer something like this for adults as well!”
Parents expressed their gratitude with comments like, “Thank you for this fantastic week. My son was so happy!” and “Amazing! My daughter came home reciting Bible verses with such joy.”
Through the laughter, learning, and love shared at Thunder Island, children and parents alike caught a glimpse of who Jesus is and the good news of the gospel.
