Alex* was clear on his calling: to pursue his professional studies in MENA with the dream of eventually serving people there. The already demanding path became even more challenging as he studied in a new language and adapted to a different culture. Yet perseverance—and God’s faithfulness—carried him through to graduation and the joy of beginning the next chapter: a center of service to others.
Alex’s plans, however, collided with an immovable barrier: a work visa was out of the question. After exploring every possible avenue, it became clear that the only remaining path was to apply for citizenship. It seemed like a long shot—he didn’t meet all the requirements, and a fellow student had already been waiting more than two years for an answer. But against the odds and in record time, Alex received the good news of acceptance—along with his new passport.
Alex was thrilled–confirmation of God’s call! But this development came with a cost that would test Alex and his family’s commitment.
Alex learned that his homeland does not allow dual citizenship and that if he wanted to follow through with the dream that God had placed in his heart, he would have to relinquish his original passport.
“It was hard for my parents to see my name taken off the records and, in a way, to lose me, but they are people of prayer who understand my calling to bless others in this way and they are supporting me.”
Now Alex must present a visa to enter the very country of his birth—a situation that feels strange and isn’t without sadness, yet he holds no regrets. Paul’s words mean so much more to me now,” he says, quoting Philippians 3:20, “‘But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.’”

Let us pray: God who can do all things, please bless Alex and the plans in place to bless others through caring service. Please provide for the many who are navigating the complexities of residency and visa needs.
